Are you doing that ON PURPOSE???

August 11th, 2008

Are you living your life in line with a DEFINITE MAJOR PURPOSE? If not you are missing out on what can be an incredible opportunity for you to master your future. In Napoleon Hills book The Master Key to Riches, he states it this way:

“It is one of the great tragedies of civilization that 98 out of 100 persons go all the way through life without coming within sight of anything that even approximates definiteness of a major purpose!”

When I read that I thought wow, that is a very powerful statement and a very true statement. Do you ever stop and wonder, “Why am I here? Why am I on this Earth? What am I supposed to be doing?”, if you do then you are a lot like me and a lot like those 98 out 100 people that Napoleon Hill was talking about when he wrote that back in 1965.

Why am I here? I believe that this question alone, if answered, can change the course of your future and the happiness with which you receive life. You must take time and meditate, contemplate, pray, think, and focus on this question and the answer will come. It may not hit you over the head like a ton of bricks, but the answer will come. It may be that your purpose is to be a great mom to your children, it may be that your purpose (like part of mine) is to provide great service to people looking to buy and sell homes, it may be that you are to be the greatest teacher to children, it may be whatever excites you and it does not matter what it is because it will be YOUR PURPOSE! When you live your life with this in mind, it get’s exhillerating! When you know what you are to do, when you are passionate about getting up in the morning and making it happen you will see results that you may have never seen before. This is success, I have heard it said that;

“Success is waking up in the morning, whoever you are, wherever you are, however old or young, and bounding out of bed because there’s something out there that you love to do, that you believe in, that your good at-something that’s bigger than you are and that you can hardly wait to get at it again!”

Now that is how I want to live my life and that is how I live my life, with Passion, Enthusiasm, Positivity, and Strength! We must find our purpose and go after it with everything we have and become that which god intended us to become. Spend some time and find your purpose and then write it down and look at it every day to remind yourself why you are here. My purpose is this; To positively impact the lives of millions of people worldwide! I now know how, I want to write New York Times best selling books, and become the greates speaker and teacher that this world has ever seen. To do that, and for you to fullfill your purpose, I believe we must study, learn and grow everyday. We must commit ourselves wholly, to that which we are here on Earth for.

You CAN DO IT! I know you can, I believe you can, now look at yourself and say to yourself, “I CAN DO IT! I CAN LIVE MY LIFE ON PURPOSE! IT IS POSSIBLE!”

Go out and make it an awesome day!      cg

Open Houses Pay!!!

July 14th, 2008

I always talk about how open houses have built the foundation of my business and I continue to strive to get better at them and teach my agents to do them well. In this tough market I get out there every weekend. Here is what that did for me and another new agent on my team yesterday.

Hard Work and Great Attitude Payoff for Local Realtor

Just wanted to share an awesome story of how teamwork, a great attitude and hard work paid off for one of our agents this weekend. I did an open house on my listing on Pickfair Drive on Sunday with budding new agent Chad Hall. He went out on Thursday and got the rider on the sign and previewed homes in the area. We conferred several times over the weekend and decided on a game plan for meeting on Sunday. Chad Hall, who will be referred to as Chad 1 throughout this article and I as Chad 2, arrived at the scene at noon for a 1pm open house (1st Gold Star). He then proceeded to open the house, turn on all lights, set up his buyer packets and open house book in the kitchen (2nd gold star) and then ventured out to plaster the neighborhood with signs (3rd gold star). Chad 2 arrived on the scene at approximately 12:30pm and preceded to open the doors for business. As I walked to the house the first couple came through with their agent, sweet way to start an open house! Chad1 arrived back at the home and we talked for about 30 minutes about his time with our team so far. I was amazed at the incredible attitude of gratitude and do whatever it takes approach. He said, “I was out all day yesterday with some first time buyers, approved up to $130k, and I also showed my investor clients some $-150k properties.” I said, “Keep pumping the pump and the higher dollar leads will come.” He said, “I do not care if they are a $50,000 buyer or a $500k buyer I will take care of them and make it happen. I love what I do and the fact that you are giving me any leads, blows me away!” Wow, I thought, now that is what makes someone a success, a do whatever it takes, grateful and hard working attitude. I was so thankful at that point to have him as a member of this team. There was much more meaningful and leadership oriented conversation and the Brian and Tammy Spencer walked through the door. As agreed upon up front I would handle all conversion of potential clients and he would observe. Within 20 minutes they were chatting us up telling us they had no representation yet, but had been speaking with another realty company who would be offering a rebate for them to buy and sell with them. I worked through that objection and we had them in the car with Chad 1 to go see other homes in the area, preparation meets opportunity.

It was approximately an hour later that the 3 of them walked back through the door exclaiming, “Chad 2 we found the house we want to buy, we WANT IT!”  YES! I exclaimed loudly inside my head and heart! The potential client then proclaimed, “Aren’t you the guy I listen to everyday on KLBJ, I had your name written down to call about selling my home.” FATE!!!

I then followed them to their home, which we now have listed between $220 and 230k, in an awesome hood, built more rapport, checked out there awesome home answered many question and explained how the whole process would work. Chad Hall is about to put up his first deal….$450k!

Teamwork + Great Attitude + Hard Work = Success

Gary Keller says…

July 8th, 2008

Hey all, I hope that life is awesome for you. I recently was talking to my team about taking our Austin real estate team to the next level, about reaching for greatness. Before I went to talk to them I emailed Gary Keller about this idea of greatness and here is what he had to say:

if you want GREATNESS in your life, then you “do what the great do.”  people have lived before you and the one thing we’ve seen is that the path to greatness is one very few travel.  why?  most want to reinvent the wheel.  instead of finding a role model of greatness for the area they want to be great in, almost everyone believes that they have to be a “self-thought up” person.  meaning, they believe the path to greatness is to just do what you think you should do.  duh???????????  where did they get that logic?  answer:  from other unsuccessful people.  they’re clearly not talking to the great ones because the great ones never give that answer.  duh??????????

you can either be monkey see……monkey do, or you can be see great……do great.

moving towards greatness requires only a few things: 1.  set a goal.2.  find someone who’s achieved it(or several) and build a daily plan around what they’ve done.3.  get an accountability coach to work with you.4.  make changes and modifications as you go (we’re all unique and what works one way for some doesn’t for others.  example:  conventional wisdom - to build muscle work the muscle group hard one or two days a week and rest it in between.  my personal experience:  i work it hard one day a week and then i still work it easier but at least 3 more times.)  the point is we’re all different, but that isn’t the place we start from.  we start from the position that we’re all the same and we start from where greatness is and then let our experience guide us into what will ultimately work from there.5.  repeat steps 1 - 4.

greatness is first a mindset and commitment and then its a set of 5 actions that never cease.

onward to greatness….garykeller

Again I am reminded why I work with this great company. Enough said. Go out and make it an incredible day, THERE ARE NO LIMITS!!!

The Speed of Trust

June 28th, 2008

Just picked this book up and had to share this with you:

By now I hope that you are convinced that, as I’ve said, nothing is as fast as the speed of trust. Nothing is as profitable as the economics of trust. Nothing is as relevant as the pervasive impact of trust. And the dividends of trust can significantly enhance the quality of every relationship on every level of your life.

BUT…you may be hesitant or fearful when it comes to actually extending your trust to others. Maybe, deep down, you really feel that other people can’t be trusted. Maybe you grew up in a low-trust environment. Maybe you’ve been burned in the past. Maybe no one has ever extended trust meaningfully to you.

I want to show you that, whatever your situation, you can learn how to extend “Smart Trust.” You can develop the competence to extend trust in ways that avoid the pitfalls and ensure the greatest dividends for all concerned. You can also learn how to restore trust when it has been lost, and how to develop the propensity to trust that is absolutely vital to effective leadership and life.

Aside from being personally worthy of trust and knowing how to build trusting relationships on all levels, your ability to appropriately extend trust to others is the single most impactful factor in creating a high-trust environment, both at work and at home.

The first job of a leader is to inspire trust. The ability to do so, in fact is a prime differentiator between a manager and a leader. To inspire trust is to create the foundation upon which all truly successful enterprises-and relationships-stand.

Stephen M.R. Covey, The Speed of Trust

I have only one word at this point, WOW! Thank you Mr. Covey…

Go out and make it an awesome day…cg

P.S. Thank you Harold Ware, you are a genius.

Diamonds are created under pressure…

June 23rd, 2008

Hello Super, Awesome and Amazing people in this Universe!

Hope all is well with you in Real Estate sales land and in your pursuit of greatness in your life. The Austin real estate market is definately challenging me to stay focused and to work hard. We are continuously upgrading our successful real estate systems so that we stay on the top of our game. There is never a time where you should stop growing, becoming more innovative and creative in the way that you work. You can grow more dominant right now by stepping up and showing your leadership. I believe that no matter how tough the times get, how high gas prices go, how slow sales become, that we have an opportunity to be the absolute best that we can become. You have to keep your vision, and your mission in front of you, constantly striving for what you want out of life.

All leaders have a dream and a vision for a better future, the vision and the person who has the vision are inseparable. Your heart must beat for the vision. Leaders must mature and they must also have time to strengthen and grow. Gold is purified only after it passes repeatedly through the fire. Diamonds are created only under extreme pressure. Great leaders are formed only through trials and challenging times…..Step Up and work on becoming the leader you were born to be! Now is a better time than ever to be attending training events. I am more focused right now on my own training and personal growth than I have ever been in my life. With fewer leads, fewer sales and more work, there has never been a more important time to be focused on personal growth and your skills and mindset. My entire listing team is in training sessions right now to help us grow and get sharper. As I see weaker agents sitting back worried about the sky falling, I am prospecting, servicing my clients and learning more than I have ever in my life. It is time to step up! If you want to be the best you can be, rise to the occasion and show people what you are made of. Be a leader and create momentum in your life so that when this market comes roaring back you are at the forefront!!!! Become the diamond that you were born to become. Your focused and servant hearted friend…Chad Goldwasser

Incredible…

June 16th, 2008

Wow…what a win for Tiger Woods at the US Open. We have seen what a master looks like and it is him. It is really fun to be wrapped up in the moment and watch history being made, not to mention enjoying it with your two boys.  Mason and Aden Goldwasser were about as excited to watch Tiger as I was. We had a wonderful Father’s day weekend (which happens to be my fathers birthday weekend as well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIP!) right here in Austin in the pool in the backyard. Now that is what life is all about.

It is so fun to see a person like Tiger Woods really take his game and our enjoyment of it to another level, not to mention Rocco! We can see in these PGA Tour pros a level of golf that is really amazing. I love to play and it is just remarkable to even think of playing to their scores. Their is such an intensity and focus when you reach the pros and we can all take that same approach to our own lives. When you start to reach your potential like these men have you have something to be very proud of. I want to be the Tiger Woods of my industries and become the absolute best that I can become. I want to live a legendary life that will make my family and myself proud. I want to shatter all limits that there are. Congratuations to Tiger, Rocco and all the other champions that were out there, you all inspire me!

Pruning your team…

June 12th, 2008

Real estate team building is not really easy, even in the great city of Austin, Texas. For that matter, business building in general is not that easy. One of the hardest parts of growing a team and a business, and then growing as leaders will be those times when we have to let people go. That is right, when you have to fire someone, not a great feeling, especially when you love people and you do everything you can to stare at there potential. People have so much potential and opportunity and yet they let things such as their personal lives, attitudes, excuses and all the other hub-bub stuff get in the way of their work. As a leader you will have to face those tough decisions of letting team members go, and you must do it sooner rather than later. If you have a major dream and a major mission and their are people that you have brought on board that are not the right fit to go to the top of the mountain, you must prune them. When you prune a flower, tree or plant it will grow back stronger and so will your team. You may think that it is the end of the world when you lose a team member, but it is not. Remember, you as the leader of your company must make the best decision for the well being of your business and the other team members. If people are not doing there job then you have to prune, and I guarentee as you do you will grow stronger. For all of the people that I have had to let go be successful other places I want you to know I do wish you the absolute best. Make it a Breakthrough Day!    cg

Often the circumstances seem to be instrumental in the creation of great leaders and thinkers, but that is the case only when their attitude is right.      JOHN MAXWELL

You have a choice!

June 1st, 2008

I was at my office today prospecting with my inside sales team and one of my agents. As the real estate market in Austin has softened it has pushed me to get back in there and start focusing on the phones, making sure that I am doing my part to convert all the leads that I can. I figured out a long time ago that I have a natural ability to convert inquiries into the office into clients in my car. Over the course of 10 years in sales I have constantly focused on getting better and better at taking an incoming call and turning it into a sale, and on becoming the best salesman that I could become. I realized that I had a choice, that we all have a choice. We have a choice to become the absolute best, or we can chose to be average, natural ability will only take you so far.

Here is what I mean. Today as I was at my office, I was listening to one of my top salespeople handling a call and he did a pretty good job, but I knew he could do better. This guy is a total superstar with a lot of talent and natural ability, but in order to become legendary he needs to refine and focus his energy on becoming the best. His natural ability, even though outstanding, will only take him so far. As I listened to him on the phone I noticed several areas for him to improve and after the call we practiced his script and started talking about him taking his career to the next level. I think he got it. I shared with him, and I will share with you as well, we have to focus on growth everyday. We can never stop growing and changing, and working to be our best everyday. There is no limit to our income if we just make a choice to become the absolute best every single day, keeping our eyes on getting better. You can only get so far on your natural ability. In order to break through your next ceiling you have got to start practicing your scripts, becoming a master objection handler, working on your midset, paying attention to the details of who you are and what you are becoming.

I know for me, to reach the goals that I have set forth for my life I must buckle down and start working harder on who I am and what I do at every juncture of my life. I want to realize my destiny and positively impact the lives of millions of people worldwide. I want to speak to audiences and electrify, teach, and motivate them to do more than they ever thought possible with their lives and in order to reach that potential I must strive for growth everyday.

We have a choice…we can go through our lives and just give what we think we have and be average or we can chose to give life everything we have and become the most incredible people that we can become. We can make a difference in this world by focusing on taking our lives to the highest level poissible. I chose not to be afraid of the vastness of my destiny and you can make that choice too. You can chose to make your life a masterpiece and I hope you do!

see you soon…cg

Launching a Leadership Revolution…

May 28th, 2008

I am very passionate about my growth as a leader, and about leadership period. I do everything I can to constantly fill my mind with great thoughts that will allow me to grow and realize my destiny. My mission in life is to become the most highly sought after leadership teacher in the world. I want to continuously fill my mind and soul with the thoughts and words of the greatest thinkers this world has known so that as I grow and become the man that I want to become, I can teach others and the lessons just come out of me. I have a plan and I know how I will reach my ultimate destiny, I hope you do as well. Part of the plan is to read constantly. I am currently reading a book by Chris Brady and Orrin Woodward called Launching A Leadership Revolution-Mastering the Five Levels of Influence, if you love leadership pick it up. I want to share some thoughts that have struck me hard from this book. I know you will enjoy them. All of these thoughts come from chapter 7 The Second Level of Influence:Performing. It is about ones ability to perform their role and becoming the best that they can become.

Performers understand that champions do not start out that way. For those new to the topic of success or leadership, it seems common to assume that champions have always been successful. Nothing could be a bigger myth. Champions become that way only through the commitment that follows a decision to be great. (Champions are forged not just born, everyone has greatness within them, we just have to find it, hone it and let it out!)

Sometimes people struggle to become performers and find themselves smack up against a poor self image. Additionally there seems to be no shortageof situations that expose us to these feelings of inadequacy. We all have them. But, performers know that they must succeed despite these feelings, not in the absence of them. It is a decision. Sometimes we will not feel worthy of a certain accomplishment, so we must make ourselves worthy. We may not feel we can measure up to our goals, and that is precisely the reason for deliberate personal growth!!!!! To reach our potential, growth isn’t optional, it is REQUIRED!!!! (If you want to become the best that you can be, then you must strive to grow everyday. God did not put us on this Earth to stagnate he put us here to reach our maximum potential to become the kind of people that do great things. Strive for growth every single day.)

Effort fully releases its reward only after a person refuses to quit. Persistence is the key. (You will never give up, never surrender. Live the biggest life that you can live and rise up to the challenges that this incredible life has to offer!)

And lastly…this amazing poem…enjoy.

Anyway

people are unreasonable, illogical and self centered.

love them anyway

if you do good, people will accuse you of selfishness.

do good anyway

if you are successful you will win false friends and true enemies

succeed anyway

the good you do will be forgotten tomorrow

do good anyway

honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable

be honest and frank anyway

what you spend years building may be destroyed overnight

build anyway

people really need help but may attack you if you help them

help people anyway

give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth

give the world the best you’ve got anyway

You all have an awesome day and take it to the next level…see you soon!   cg

May 15th, 2008

Sorry I have been away for a while, I have missed writing here.

It is time to talk about being all out there! I was attending a concert with one of my friends recenly and he made mention (in a slightly joking manner) of the fact that my face was all over the city, and how he really thought my billboards were funny. The truth is, I am all over the place and I am not ashamed of it. If you want to build the strongest business you have got to put yourself out in the public eye. My role as the leader and the rainmaker of our company is to be the face man. I have to give every bit of effort to getting my name and my face out into the world in a big way. When I started my campaign on the big local A.M. radio station the idea was to make myself the local real estate celebrity. When we started our TV campaign it was the same thing, help the people of Austin think of no one else when they thought about real estate. If you want to build the strongest and best business that will drive buyers and sellers to you, you will have to get over your “shyness” about publicity, you are going to have to become a publicity hound, a shameless self promoter, and an all around great person that people want to see and be around. That is the key; people have got to want to be around you!

Are you a person that people like to be around? Do you like to be around you???  Answer those questions honestly, because the answers will effect everything else in your life. If you are the kind of person that people look at as likable, it will have a very positive impact on your career and your business.

If you are not positive and fun, nobody will stand for it and they will run from you. Be the kind of bright, pleasent, beaming person that makes all of those around them feel comfortable. As leadership icon John Maxwell says; “be a lifter not a leaner.” Lift people up with your words, your leadership and your example. This will make a huge difference when your business starts taking off. Start handing out your cards and getting to know those around you. Building a strong network is crucial for your growing business. Talk to you soon!   cg
